Street Storm Water Conveyance Capacity

چکیده

The street hydraulic capacity to convey storm water is dictated by the street gutter geometry and hydraulic characteristics. With the consideration of traffic safety, the street hydraulic conveyance capacity is also subject to a reduction defined by the water velocity and flow depth in the street gutter. In this study, the street hydraulic equation is re-arranged to demonstrate that the water velocity and depth product in a gutter flow can serve as a safety criterion for determining the allowable street hydraulic conveyance capacity. Both the velocity and water depth product and discharge reduction methods were examined and revised to establish the consistency in predictions. The revised design procedures developed in this study replace the current iterative process with a direct estimation of the allowable street hydraulic conveyance capacity when a safety criterion is specified.

Effects of Rainfall on E. coli Concentrations at Door County, Wisconsin Beaches

Rainfall and its associated storm water runoff have been associated with transport of many pollutants into beach water. Fecal material, from a variety of animals (humans, pets, livestock, and wildlife), can wash into beach water following rainfall and result in microbial contamination of the beach. Many locales around the world issue pre-emptive beach closures associated with rainfall. This stu...

Hydrologic processes at the urban residential scale

In the face of increasing urbanization, there is growing interest in application of microscale hydrologic solutions to minimize storm runoff and conserve water at the source. In this study, a physically based numerical model was developed to understand hydrologic processes better at the urban residential scale and the interaction of these processes among different best management practices (BMP...

Developing an effective 2-D urban flood inundation model for city emergency management based on cellular automata

Flash floods have occurred frequently in the urban areas of southern China. An effective process-oriented urban flood inundation model is urgently needed for urban storm-water and emergency management. This study develops an efficient and flexible cellular automaton (CA) model to simulate storm-water runoff and the flood inundation process during extreme storm events. The process of infiltratio...
